Kid Quill – “Daily Routine” [Video]

By Kaitlin

Hailing from Shelbyville, Indiana, a southeast suburb of Indianapolis, Kid Quill delivers a visual for his song “Daily Routine.” The cut comes from his second studio album, The Name Above the Title, a chronological story of his experiences leading to where he is today. This song is representative of his first few years of high school. High school days are the formative years, where you really start to find yourself and make lifelong friends. “Daily Routine” is a happy go-lucky tune about finding confidence in just being yourself and not having a lot of worries. Everyone’s daily routine is different, but it’s that daily routine that shapes you into who you are.

Interview: Catching Up With Cream Team Chicago

By Kaitlin

We recently caught up with hip-hop duo Cream Team Chicago, who are prepping the release of their upcoming Key2Life EP. They just dropped the lead single, “Welcome To Chicago.” Check it out here and get to know CTC better below.

Mechanical Dummy: So, you guys are from Chicago and you’re a duo. Sounds like you have a lot in common with The Cool Kids, who just announced they’re making a comeback. Seeing as you guys just opened for Sir Michael Rocks in Kentucky last month, days before the reunion announcement, is it safe to say you guys are fans and excited by the news?
Cream Team Chicago: Absolutely. They created great music and have marked their territory in the industry. It’ll be exciting to see what they come up with next.

MD: Would you also say that The Cool Kids were an inspiration?
CTC: Definitely an inspiration. They got Chicago blood and they’ve grown a phenomenal fan base.

MD: Speaking of inspirations, who else would you guys say make the cut for yours?
CTC: UGK and Outkast-both duos were at the top of their game. Showing how two different personalities can blend together into one historic sound. Jay Z and Lil Wayne – We would label them the pioneers from our era. They created empires that control the music industry today. Longevity in the game.

MD: Where did the name Cream Team come from?
CTC: The name Cream Team came about when we were in high school. We were always together and just wanted a name that identifies us as brothers and a unit versus Donnie Macc and Turk separately. Our acronym for C.R.E.A.M. is Chicago Represents Everything About Me.

MD: How did it feel having your single “Fly” debuted on Power 92.3? What was the reception like?
CTC: It was a huge milestone and fueled us even more to …read more

Sean Scott – “Been Waiting”

By Kaitlin

Back in 1998, Noreaga released the third single off his critically acclaimed N.O.R.E. LP. Appropriately titled “Banned From TV,” the raw rap record featured uncensored guest verses from Hip-Hop greats Nature, Cam’ron, Jadakiss, Styles P, the late Big Pun and of course the Superthug himself.
Paying homage to the now classic collaboration, NYC bred emcee Sean Scott connect’s with DJ SwanQo for their rendition of the Swizz Beatz-produced posse cut they call “Been Waiting.” Serving as the latest leak form the Honor Roll recording artist’s forthcoming ScottSZN project, it doubles as a celebratory release in honor of Sean’s “Can’t Nobody Touch Us” visual reaching 50K+ views on YouTube in just over a month – with little or no media coverage.

Premiere: PressureOnline – “Seems Like You’re Ready” ft. Bella Fyntane

By Kaitlin

PressureOnline, a new recording artist from Jersey City, New Jersey exclusively shares his debut single “Seems Like You’re Ready” today with Mechanical Dummy. In an interview, PressureOnline discusses what inspired the record, how he met the featured artist Bella Fyntae, what Valentine’s Day means to him, and more. The title of his song sounds familiar because it was inspired by the legendary singer-songwriter R. Kelly’s hit record from his debut studio album, 12 Play.

Aside from this single, PressureOnline has released a 14-track mixtape called, “No Filter.” Over the years, PressureOnline has received nods from the likes of legendary Hip-Hop DJ Kid Kapri, DJ Bobby Trends, DJ Drewski (Hot 97 Angie Martinez), Eric B. (Eric B & Rakim), Treach (Naughty by Nature), Free (Former 106&Park Host), and Maino.

Check out the Q&A below.

1. What inspired you to make the song? How do you and the featured artist know each other?

I was inspired from the sample honestly. Understanding how I was prepared to expand my female fan base in more of a grown and sexy way, I knew this was the perfect record to help me get that point across. I met Bella Fyntae almost ten years ago through a video director that was working on our projects at the same time, so I would frequently see her at the studio, and from there we became close friends.

2. What does Valentine’s Day mean to you?

Valentine’s Day to me is a way to spread the love! It’s a day dedicated to displaying your inner passion for emotions towards your significant other.

3. Are you a huge R. Kelly fan? What’s your favorite R. Kelly song or moment?

Certainly, I’m a huge R. Kelly fan! He’s been a household name for as long I could remember! The man, as an artist, is nothing below legendary, and …read more

Profit – “Ain’t Rich Yet” ft. Dave East

By Kaitlin

Longtime friends and collaborators Profit and Dave East team up to put their competition on blast on the menacing banger “Ain’t Rich Yet,” which boasts heavy production from Cardiak & CU Beatz.

Given that the two MCs met back in high school while playing basketball together, it’s only fitting that they would sound so natural passing the mic back and forth on here. And fans of the two have already experienced their familial chemistry in person, because P is East’s right-hand man when rocking live shows.

Profit, who originally hails from the DMV area, may not be as established as his East Harlem collaborator just yet, but that doesn’t stop him for stepping up and taking lyrical shots at his opponents. Oh that girl he’s with? Probably yours. And that car he’s driving? You likely can’t afford it, because as the hook goes: “You been trappin’ for years, you ain’t rich yet.”

Be sure you listen to “Ain’t Rich Yet” in a proper setting, too, because you don’t want to disrespect the booming, bass-rich production from Cardiak & CU Beatz. Their instrumental perfectly suits the aggressive sh*t-talking of Profit and East by allowing the words to take center-stage while the beat rattles your speakers.

Ish Williams – “You Know”

By Kaitlin

Hailing from the Southside of New Jersey, Ish Williams unveils two brand new records on Cupid’s Day with “You Know” and “The Make Up” featuring Shaqeyah.
Produced by Chris Berry and Kenif Muse, “You Know” features colorful xylophonic sounds and barefaced bars. Ish’s banter is inspired by a past relationship. He recounts being with a woman who couldn’t handle being put on the back burner at times while Ish focused on his musical endeavors. Ish proclaims music as his first love, and any girl who can’t accept that is undeserving in Ish’s eye.
His second release comes in the form of “The Make Up,” produced by Matty Moonshine. Featuring vocals from Shaqeyah, this track takes on a Ja Rule & Ashanti duet vibe, swapping between Ish’s rap rhymes and Shaqeyah’s soulfully sung lines. 2016 was a breakthrough year for Providence-born MC SIN. He signed with Valholla Entertainment, released his Victory Lap EP and was named one of VIBE Magazine’s “Miami Knights: 30 Florida Rappers You Need to Hear Right Now.”

The Miami resident rapper continuously cements his legacy in South Florida’s rap scene with elaborate, raspy bars. His VL single, “You Sleep” featuring Bostxn (produced by Far Lane) reestablishes his prominence while highlighting growth in silence.

Komodo’s bright clip shows SIN entering a trance, later boarding a truck en route to a secluded basketball court. He effortlessly invokes emotions resulting in vivid imagery.

Bostxn urges listeners to question fake relationships echoing “Watch them two-face niggas playing 2k wit’cha / Just make sure those niggas keep it 2k wit’cha / you sleep, don’t wake up too late / Money in the way”.

Listen to SIN’s Victory Lap project here and check out South Florida’s budding music scene.

First Play: Jared Evan – The Blanket Truth

By Mo Indigo

Former Interscope signee turned independent artist, Jared Evan is a multifaceted singer-songwriter/rapper and producer seeking to soulfully reenergize the masses with his introspective and personal songwriting mixed with old school Hip-Hop sensibilities and alternative/grunge rock influences.

First arriving on our radars back in 2013 dropping his collaborative LP with Statik Selektah, Boom Bap & Blues, Jared has since gone on to drop a few more projects and been called on to pen for Rihanna, Eminem, Kanye West and other top tier artists.

“Since Boom Bap & Blues, I’ve grown a lot. My techniques, songwriting have grown. My songwriting has gotten so much sharper and theres so much clarity in my lyrics. You hear it more on my other project with Statik [Still Blue] and my more recent work –The Art Form Of Whatever. But our goal is to have a Boom Bap & Blues trilogy,” Jared reveals.

“I’ve been working on my newest project for a long time. A lot of these songs started years ago. The oldest being 3 years old. The last project I put out was after a tour I did to capitalize off the tour. I felt like its been a long enough period since then. Plus theres was an itch from my fanbase,” details Jared. That itch was scratched when Evan’s released The Blanket Truth, his fourth album which features the likes of Allan Kingdom and Lloyd.

According to the artists, “The album was actually inspired by one of my favorite movies of all time, I Heart Huckabees. There is a scene where Dustin Hoffman’s character explains to Jason Schwartzman’s character this concept called The Blanket Truth. I kind of took that concept and put my own twist on it. I took that idea and made it introspective. I took Dustin’s …read more

First Play: denitia and sene – love and noir.

By Mo Indigo

Brooklyn based Electro-pop duo denitia and sene solidified Alternative R&B with 2013 debut LP His and Hers, an iTunes R&B chart topper. Since then, both built individual careers: vocalist Denitia delivered a project performing under ADESUWA (Air Light) as Sene starred in Netflix hit series Luke Cage.

“A lot has happened since His and Hers. Dede and I had enough songs in the bank since we did our last album. but at some point you can’t have everyone on this microwave generation shit. I don’t know if it’s a good wave to do things. We were very lucky how well our last record did,” says Sene. “Were still getting shows 2-3 years after our last album. You don’t see that much anymore.”

Soulful sensuality has been this duo’s strong suit. His and Hers encapsulated summer love. love and noir. teeters between narratives of hazy romance and confusion. “We had a seamless vibe going into our previous records. We had a lot of songs that we kept working on before we knew what they would be. We were focused and excited,“ Denitia tells us.

To start off their newest body of work, denitia and sene present “Favorite,” a convoluted yet lethargic introduction. According to Sene, the version fans hear today is actually a remixed one. “We had the original version of ‘Favorite’ for a while,” Sene tells us. “Dede had already killed the vocals, the beat had horns and it was really big- maybe we’ll drop it later as the remix. We liked the original song a lot but weren’t going to put it out as is. One night I flipped the song and forgot about it ’til months later when we played it in the studio and we both loved it cause it was so dope.”

Kidd Kidd – “On Some Shit” [Video]

An introspective classic, On Some Shit contains all the elements that made listeners fall in love with the Kidd Kidd’s sound. Sayyi – “BREW’N” [Mixtape]

By Kaitlin

Chicago native Sayyi has been refining his game behind the scenes as a songwriter on tracks with industry heavyweights including DJ Khaled, Jeremih, Rihanna, and Tinashe. He co-wrote DJ Khaled’s RIAA Certified Gold single “Hold You Down”, which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 and Rhythmic charts and was a winner at the 2016 BMI R&B/ Hip-Hop Awards. Most recently, Sayyi wrote the track “Nada” by Leaf featuring Lil’ Yachty. As an artist, Sayyi is fresh off of features including the TWRK dance track “Hands On It” with Migos and Sage The Gemini and the underground banger “What You Mean”, an E.A.S.Y-produced single. With an ode to his Southside hustle, Sayyi’s energy, intensity, and lyricism shine on BREW’N, a compilation featuring 6 brand new singles co-produced by Sayyi, along with 3 previously released tracks, including the summertime banger “Love That Sound” featuring Jeremih – a quick glimpse of what’s to come from this songwriter-turned-artist.

“I’ve been brew’n for a while now, cooking up new music. Here’s a few unreleased records from 2016 that I’ve been dying to get off my laptop before I release my debut brew in 2017. Happy holidays!” -Sayyi

AO! Premiere: Kurt Rockmore – When You The Man

By Uptown Toney

On December 20th, Kurt Rockmore ended his 15-city run on Tory Lanez’ I Told You tour making, Charlotte, NC the final destination. Today, he keeps the momentum going by premiering a new record titled “When You The Man.”

On “When You The Man,” Rockmore details life as a big shot that can shutdown clubs and stages with his presence. Ominous chords set way to the braggadocious highlife raps followed by thunderous drums and kicks which give the track an energetic quality, perfect for the turn up.

“I wrote and recorded this song in between tour dates on the I Told You tour with Tory Lanez,” says Kurt. “It was how I was feeling at the time because after a few crazy shows, me team and I started to see the switch. It was almost like we could like we feel the stars moving into place. E White sent the beat over, and we had it done in less than a week.”

The booming production provided by E White falls in line with the darker trend of records Kurt has been releasing and getting fans to turn up to night-in and night-out on road.

Driving the 2016 Mazda CX-5

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

By Ashley Outrageous

Every time I come back home to Florida I’m always excited to get behind the wheel. I look forward to it even more since connecting with DriveShop a year ago as I get to cruise around in some of the latest automotive models. This time I’m back with Mazda taking their 2016 CX-5 for a spin!

Back in February I drove the CX-3 out in Los Angeles and loved it. I feel the same about The CX-5 but love it just a bit more. The CX-5 is larger and came with an all new grille and foglight surround design. The inside? Clean and sleek! Technology is always my sell though because of the large role it plays in my daily life. The seven-inch full color touchscreen display and multi-function commander control is the sh*t, simply put. Safety measures? Top notch. Blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning and more. If I was to move back to Florida, I would certainly consider this car for myself.

Did I mention it also drove super smooth and the engine was pretty quiet? Yep, it did. Check out some photos below!

5 Ways to Catch a Beatdown from a Beat Maker

By FuNkwoRm

Most beat makers take their craft very seriously and there are a few pet peeves that may result in bodily harm. Here are 5 of them.

1: Using beat maker’s beat without paying for it

Don’t take the liberty of thinking that you can throw a beat maker’s beat on our mixtape just because you found it on the internet somewhere. You can catch a lawsuit and a few left hooks if you ever run into the beat maker you victimized.

2: Re-selling his beat

I’ve been the victim of this. Someone licenses a beat from you then has the nerve to try to sell the shit to someone else at a much larger price. This is also a problem with some beat sites on the Internet. Sometimes the site selling the beats aren’t the rightful owners.

3: Wasting his beat by spitting wack rhymes on it.

Sometime a rapper will purchase one of your dopest beats, then spit some terrible lyrics on it. Then on top of that, he wants to put your name on the project as the producer!! Ugghhhh!!!

4: Screwing around with the beat maker’s music

Sometime you may have to give the artist access to all of your individual music files to a particular beat. And sometimes they’ll take it upon themselves to start fucking around with your instrumentation, changing the drums and whatnot. Don’t mess with my music, dude!

5: Unplugging a beat maker’s music hard drive before unmounting it

First of all, you shouldn’t be touching my equipment in the first place. But snatching the usb chord out of my computer before I get the chance to unmount it could result in me losing everything on it. Of course I have a backup, but that’s beside the point!

Beat makers, If I missed anything, leave it in the comment …read more

Dat Boy – “Make Em Mad” ft. Boosie Badazz

By Kaitlin

Houston’s next up, Dat Boy, just dropped a new DJ Scream-hosted tape called “Too Talented To Be Bullshittin” on LiveMixtapes and the title alone should make you take notice. If that’s not enough though, todays offering from that project has Boosie all up in it and the two combined are straight fire. Haters are a running theme in rap and the video for “Make Em Mad” runs with it; flaunting as it does, everything our intrepid heroes have that you don’t. All them broads you can’t have, all that talent you don’t posses and all them watches, rings and chains will just make you sick; hell, even Johnny Dang makes an appearance, but not so sick that you won’t want to keep bumping it. You know what they say…..hate the player not the game. PS….Dat Boy’s project also features Z-Ro, Doughboy and Sauce Walka as well as some fire boardwork from none other than Zaytoven. Check it out.

Get Familiar: Kurt Rockmore

By Uptown Toney

With our Get Familiar segment, we look to highlight promising up-and-coming artists that we’ve previously featured on the site but never really dove into. In the past, we’ve posted music from Kurt Rockmore but not enough to get readers to be familiar with. Currently on the East Coast leg of Tory Lanez’ I Told You tour with Jacquees, Kurt has been pulling in new fans night-in and night-out with his high energy set. The artist formerly known as Kocky is someone you should Get Familiar with.

Bred in the Bay Shore section of Long Island, NY, Kurt’s Haitian immigrants parents made sure he stayed on the straight and narrow, forcing him to be a role model for his younger sibling. He was truly his brothers keeper. Rap wasn’t really allowed in the Rockmore household but a rebellious older sister was not to be confined.

“Growing up, my sister was the one who brought Hip-Hop and R&B into the household. I remember her playing Aaliyah, Diddy/Bad Boy and lots of radio records. But she had this one album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. She played that all day. When I first heard that album, I remember thinking to myself, ‘What is this?” My mind felt like it was going to explode from all that greatness.” That first taste of urban music shaped Kurt’s musical outlook as well as tracks by Cassidy, Lloyd Banks and other lyrical North East mixtape legends.

Kurt got his first start at rapping when he was 18-years-old and had a game of basketball got called off due to heavy downpour. Kurt and his cousin then found themselves freestyling over downloaded instrumental to pass the time. In this day and age, 18 is pretty late to be getting into rap but a very religious mother and a dad who would …read more

JR Jones – “Poppin” [Video]

By Kaitlin

Kansas City native, JR Jones, is an up and coming Hip-Hop & Reggaeton artist that is ready to take the music industry by storm. Currently living in Los Angeles, CA, the 22 year-old artist has created a movement that is gaining ground quickly. Born to a Mexican-American mother and an African-American father, JR is bringing a unique Afro-Latino mix the music game has never seen.

Just this year, JR released his highly acclaimed EP, The Coronation. The EP has already been featured on 4 different Hip-Hop magazines, 2 radio stations, and has been streamed on Soundcloud over a million times. Following the release of his music, JR released his new clothing brand, “Black Musa Empire”. JR also made his television debut performing live in Spanish on EstrellaTv’s hit show, “Noches Con Platanito”. On the show, JR was praised by the highly-critical judge, Pepe Garza, for his great flow and potential to be star. With all of his many talents, there’s no doubt JR Jones is on his way to the top.

“Poppin” is the first single off of JR’s EP, “The Coronation”. This heavy hitter exemplifies JR’s introduction to the industry. It’s got a deep, dense bass sound throughout the entire single accompanied by JR’s signature voice and catchy hook. The record is a small sneak peak of the immense talent that is, JR Jones.

Runway Richie – “Made It Happen” ft. Trae The Truth

By Kaitlin

The Atlanta rap scene has been one of the most fledging markets in the past decade and a half, sprouting some of Hip Hop’s biggest names. Fortunately, the grass roots work ethic is not lost on the region’s new crop of talent, case in point, Runway Richy. The Decatur, GA native kicked off 2016 with a bang, releasing his very well received project “China Cafeteria,” hosted by comedian DC Young Fly. The tape’s success was a trial by fire of sorts. After watching a beat that was originally his end up in the hands of 2 Chainz and becoming the breakaway hit “Watch Out,” Richy later suffered depilating injuries in a terrible car accident just three days after the release of “China Cafeteria.” Having to learn how to walk again, the emerging star stayed committed to his mission, performing at SXSW 2016 on crutches.

This same dedication to his craft is what led him to heights such as a starring role in the film “Hotlanta,” a fan favorite on YouTube. Inking a deal with CKP Ent out of Atlanta, he launched his own imprint, 4AM Records with his manager KD and producer Saucelord Rich of Fki (who produced 2 Chainz’s “Watch Out”). At the present moment, Runway Richy is putting the finishing touches on his follow up project “China Cafeteria 2.5: House Special,” which already boasts a feature from the likes of Trae Da Truth. Runway Richy is most certainly one to keep an eye out for as his star and stock continually rises.

Big Piph – “The Legacy Project”

By Kaitlin

Arkansas rapper, Big Piph — real name, Chane Morrow — is a seasoned figure in the industry, having worked with major acts such as TI, Big Sean, and Snoop Dogg, besides putting out his own music and working on his own legacy project, an innovative crowd-funded venture that’s taken him a few years to perfect.

The Stanford-educated creative is changing the game with his latest, aptly titled The Legacy Project, an album conceptualized as an app. The first of its kind, the interactive album/app is a user-centric experience that seeks to engage with listeners beyond the usual digital platforms like YouTube, Facebook, SoundCloud, etc. It allows the listeners — and the artist — to control the experience. There are no changes in algorithms or terms of service that will dictate his engagement with fans. More importantly, it will allow the artist to deliver the fans the features — and the music — they want.

In today’s fast-paced soundscape where over-saturation and hyper-consumption means most albums have a relatively short life-span, TLP offers a creative way to increase the album’s longevity by offering the ability to add all kinds of interactive features that otherwise wouldn’t be available all in one place — audio, music videos, behind the scenes footage, interviews, and other bonus materials. Piph isn’t just creating an album; he’s offering listeners an entire — and enhanced — experience, via what’s in essence a “living” album.

Learn more about TLP here, and download TLP on the app store and on Google Play. Watch a trailer for TLP here.

In the meantime, check out one of the videos from The Legacy Project, “Me.”

Allow Me to Introduce: Well$

By Uptown Toney

Culture, heritage and nationality, although they differ, we’re all born with them and they ultimately fall as the basis to how we first identify ourselves. Over the last few years we’ve seen a rise in Hip-Hop were members have come out, embracing their African heritage. Artists like Tyler, the Creator, Wale, Nipsey Hussle, and The Weeknd are affirming their African roots but not many have been proud to rep their African culture or nationality from jump. At least not like fast-rising North Carolina native Well$.

Born to Congolese immigrants, Well$ has only been active in music for a little over four years now. The first generation Central African rap artist released his debut back in 2012 and has been one to watch ever since. The interesting thing about Well$ isn’t just his music but also the path he took getting into music. It’s one many children of immigrants can relate to.

Photo: Mike Tambashe

Born Leroy Shingu, Well$’ story starts off a year before he was birthed. Back in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Well$’ family were protesting the leader in power who had put a countrywide 6PM curfew in effect. Well$’ uncle, a political activist and member of the U.N, was being hunted down by soldiers for his views.

“There’s no freedom of speech where my family is from. If you spoke against the government, they would kill you. Mike [my manager/cousin] could you stories about how soldiers with AK’s would stop him and his mom asking, “Where is your husband.” Harassing them. That’s initially how my dad got citizenship, through political refugee.” Seeking political asylum was a common thing back in the early 90’s. This is back when Rwanda was in turmoil, conflicts had raged on, and rebels controlled about a third of the entire country.

Rome – “Wasn’t Built In A Day” [Mixtape]

By Kaitlin

Bronx Native rapper, Rome, returns to offer up his most recent and most meaningful body of work.

Being raised between the East Side of Harlem and the Bronx, Sounds of Rome (fka. Zeuss) is a true testament to the classic phrase, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” Under The Alias, Zeuss, he started his musical journey as a freshman in high school, releasing solo projects, Money Is The Motive, The After Effect, and The Collection.

After close to a decade of creating work as Zeuss, he needed a rebirth, a breath of fresh air. Marrying his influences from the braggadocios, legendary wrestler, Ted Dibiase, aspirations of being a comedian with his experiences as a native New Yorker, Rome was born.

“The project was inspired on new beginnings. The dead flowers represent my past life and how I wanted to leave my old self in the past and reintroduce myself to a new audience with a new sound, perspective, overall look on my present life.”
