As a forever present unofficial-turned-official member of the legendary rap group Slum Village, producer/rapper Young RJ has twice been entrusted with continuing the legacy of Detroit’s most important rap group. But with a prosperous music career behind the scenes and officially as part of the group, he’s ready to speak for himself with his solo debut, Blaq Royalt. And he explores various forms of corruption in new video “Huh?!”

The rapper/producer has produced for the likes of Slum Village, 50 Cent and G-Unit, Eric Roberson, De La Soul and Little Brother. On upcoming album Blaq Royalt, he shows the same musical versatility that made him such a reliable producer.

“Huh” employs ominous synths for a ruthless, chase-checking mentality to music. Check out the video here.

Back in 1999, when 50 Cent was just another up and coming rapper trying to make a name for his-self he released the now classic diss record “How To Rob.” Calling out everybody in the industry from Jay Z to Kirk Franklin, the controversy ridden cut is heavily responsible for jump starting the entertainment mogul’s thriving career. Determined to be the next thing smoking out of South Carolina is upstart Krazy Obilla, who verbally victimizes Georgia’s capital city and Hip-Hop’s current hotbed for his latest audio contribution.
Entitled “Rob Atlanta,” the Skitzo-produced manifesto sends shots towards The Falcons, BMF, Migos, Future, Jeezy, Young Thug, Lil Scrappy, T.I. and more, leaving fans to determine whether this is banter or brainstorming. Stream “Rob Atlanta” after the jump and purchase it via iTunes here.

Washington, DC-native emcee J Scienide released “The Jux,” a traditional sounding hip-hop track produced by Gensu Dean featuring DJ Iran today. According to the J Scienide, the song is inspired by a conversation with a few older men in October of last year. He was in Brooklyn at a cookout.

J Scienide says the following about his latest release, “I had the beat playing on repeat as I was on the way to a cookout back in October. The guys talked about the good ol’ days when they used to go to parties at The Tunnel, Latin Quarter, and Mars; see people get robbed or partake in a robbery (or a jux). They grew up in New York City during the 1980s. At the time at the cookout, Slick Rick and BDP (Boogie Down Productions) played in the background. Subsequently, I grabbed a pen and a napkin. Then, I started writing to the beat. Gensu’s stripped down instrumental fit perfectly. It brought out my lyrics, and made me reminisce about sitting on the stoop in Brooklyn with the guys.”

Trump’s campaign rhetoric and disproportionate police killings of unarmed African Americans have had the country extremely divided along the lines of race. Knowing how important symbols of unity can be, Majik n’ Brrrd decided to go full bore with the new moniker and create a group that rejected the division and racism of the times. The duo agreed to refocus their efforts through all the turmoil and get back to crafting a masterpiece.

They came up with an 8-track CD (titled Magic and Bird) under the newly created name, Majik n’ Brrrd, which dropped last month. The project has everything from street bangers to conscious tracks. The theme of the album can be felt echoing throughout the melodious chorus’ and gritty word play; that instead of focusing on our minute differences, we should be focusing on the vast majority of struggles that make us similar. Check it out here.

In a Jersey joint effort, Mike Zombie and Dougie F come together for a brand new release with “Coin In The Bank.”
“Coin In The Bank” is inspired by Sonic 2, featuring a jingle from the video game’s “Chemical Plant” stage. The quirky reworked chiptune is backed by a guitar accompaniment from Torin Martinez. The cover artwork, designed by Mike Z., features two game characters–one with red hair and the other with a yellow top. The red-haired character (Super Sonic) is representative of Mike’s real-life red tresses while the yellow one (Knuckles) is symbolic of Dougie’s yellow du-rag wearing swag.

Shorty looks to solidify himself in the rap game with the Hot New Hip Hop premiere of his official music video for “I Might.” Featuring G-Unit‘s Kidd Kidd and rap legend Juvenile, this joint is a banger.

Do not disturb. Chris Brown asks for “Privacy” on the sex-drenched single off his upcoming album Heartbreak on a Full Moon. The R-rated bedroom banger, produced by d.a. doman, finds Breezy back in baby-making mode, seducing his girl with all the right moves and unapologetically raunchy lines, which are not for the faint of heart.

“Ain’t nobody here but you and me / Lickin’ your private parts / And I know you love your privacy,” he sings before boasting, “Ain’t gotta pay for that pu**y / My d**k can change your life.”

Brown, who will guest star on “Black-ish” next month, is gearing up to release his eighth album Heartbreak on a Full Moon later this year. The project has already spawned the singles “Grass Ain’t Greener” and “Party” featuring Gucci Mane and Usher.

Chicago rapper Xclusiv Tone makes his presence felt in his new video for “Out The Way,” which features the rising artist posted up in his hometown and displaying his seemingly innate onscreen charisma.

Tone hails from Chicago’s infamous Holy City neighborhood, where he spent his formative years causing trouble like any teenager (smoking weed and the like) before starting his rap career. He was inspired to take his art more seriously after winning a poetry slam competition, and has recently found success with “Out The Way” as a single.

And with the release of the track’s video, Tone is clearly poised to take his career to the next level. His newest

His vision provides a glimpse into the life of Tone, who spends a majority of his days stunting with his crew and traversing the streets of Chicago. It’s been a good while since we’ve heard anything from Harlem-native rapper Chris Ferg (creatively known as KING Z3US). Instead of keeping his fans waiting for his debut album (‘Chris Ferg’ out next month via RED Distribution), he dropped two new tracks “Currency” and “Tempo” this week.

When asked what inspired both tracks “Currency” and “Tempo,” he replied with the following.

“Honestly, I felt like I was in my bag at this time. I have been recording for the project, but also as I did that, I got more comfortable with my style. Still in reflection mode of my high school years–being a raw teen is what inspired the energy for this record. I wanted to rap yet infuse my talents around the beat. [The] typical talk-shit kind of zone.”

“Same thing. [The] same message of the ultimate focus. Very much where my mindset is at now. Got the beat and instantly zoned out. Tunnel vision. Just a different side of who Z3US is.”

Let us pray. Y.K. Supe puts emcees on notice with “Holy Flow,” a visceral take down of the meme rap generation. The stark visuals paint a morbid picture of Supe burying his competition. The video caps off a year where Supe performed throughout the country alongside acts like Young Dolph and Juicy J. Expect the BGE emcee to release a bevy of material in 2017 and return to the stage before the summer. Below is Supe’s official statement on the inspiration for the video:

“Some things that people get wrong about Chicago is the negativity. It has negativity, but there is tons of positivity that social media and the news doesn’t speak on. In the next 10 years I feel like it’s going to be how it has always been. History repeats itself no matter where you are. Chicago has spurts where it comes down and then turns back up and it’s been like that for decades. Just watch me work.” – Y.K. Supe

Two words that go hand-in-hand are “hip-hop” and “competition,” and the brand new “LIB Cypher 2017” shows viewers just that. Rappers Gab, Erik P., Nyae Slanger, and LIB Foreign step up to the plate, plopping off some rap ruthlessness. Centered around the artists’ home country of Liberia, the artists spotlight the West African country not only through their fiery rap lines but also through their clothing attire and even use of Coloqua (Liberian language) during the cypher. Check out the JnkyardCinema-directed clip above.

“Under the Bridge,” the 1992 global hit from Red Hot Chili Peppers, is a moody, potent exposè about alienation, despondency and the search for one’s truth. Lead singer Anthony Kiedis penned the platinum-selling song as he found redemption on the other side of addiction. Who can forget the indelible chorus: “I don’t ever want to feel, like I did that day/Take me to the place I love, take me all the way.”

Now press reset. Imagine the enduring song with commanding lyrical verses—cogent and again charged with strife—accompanied by the Chili Peppers’ chorus loaded with 8-cylinder gusto via a flaming, fierce female vocal. Meet Chino XL and Rama Duke, both partnering with independent music label 1520 Entertainment. “Under the Bridge” is, in fact, the launch single for the company, which aims to release a new single from its eclectic roster each month throughout 2017.

“We hope that our hybrid version of ‘Under the Bridge’ might save some lives and inspire a new generation,” says Jared Lee Gosselin, Partner and Founder of 1520 and producer of the track. His pedigree includes production credits for Velvet Revolver, Serj Tankian, DMC, Macy Gray, India.Arie, KRS-One and Musiq Soulchild. In 2013, Gosselin was awarded a Latin Grammy for Beto Cuevas’ album “Transformacion.”

Virginia is home to many fresh rising new talents looking to further push the boundaries of Hip-Hop culture with their own unique talents. Hampton’s very own Dolowolf is readying his forthcoming EP “Karma 23” and today drops off one of its first releases. The verbose emcee grabs help from a fellow native by the name of Wise to lace a few bars on the project’s first drop off, “Henny Henny,” and it gives a vibe reminiscent to notable rappers of today like Migos and Fetty Wap.. what a mix, right?
Karma 23 is on the way, but in the meantime, vibe out to Dolowolf’s latest offering featuring Wise, “Henny Henny”.

Chasing an “unattainable” dream can make us look delusional, while making us feel inadequate and even helpless. Oftentimes, what gets lost amidst the self-doubt, the sleepless nights, the strained and broken relationships, the tunnel vision, and the hunger and drive to prove everyone wrong is the scenery itself. “Enjoy the ride” may sound trite, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t. The diamonds might be in the endgame; however, the current scene is currency too, so keep pushing, embrace your place, and don’t forget “This Is Gold“: MC Bravado, ft. OnCue, produced by J57, video shot/directed by Andrew Bryan.

Hip-Hop* was released 3/3/17, courtesy of Soulspazm, and features an all-star cast of collaborators, including but not limited to: Nitty Scott, OnCue, J57, KONCEPT, EP of The Doppelgangaz, PaceWon, DeeJay Element, Real Deal, and Teddy Roxpin.

The overall trajectory of SKUFL’s contributions as a music artist, producer, songwriter and graphic designer has been largely erratic, somewhat misplaced at times. With sprinkles of his production found on a handful of releases by Florida acts such as Will Brennan (“Interest” ft. CUZ Lightyear, Dre Moon & ManMan Savage), Kodiak Fur (“Run The Night”), LTENGHT (“Get Into Something”) and SDot Braddy (“33177”), you would assume that SKUFL was a man trying to hone down on one single talent.

Yet, a quick glance over SKUFL’s Instagram and Soundcloud exudes a totally different outlook, almost an entirely new story altogether. His following is as modest as one could possibly be as a creative, but it’s quite clear that SKUFL’s interest in art stretches across many platforms. In more ways than one, the newest six-track EP, “F*ck I Can Feel Everything”, serves as an official debut for SKUFL. It was a development that provided major perspective, but one could argue that it did not necessarily fill in every void.

Below, we caught up with SKUFL via e-mail, to find out more about his EP.

How did SKUFL come to be as an artist/producer?

SKUFL: When I seen the first Harry Potter book, I didn’t even read it, I just told myself I had to become a wizard. So by my sophomore year in High School, I became a wizard and enrolled in Fruity Loops.

The name, “F*ck I Can Feel Everything”, where does it stem from? Would you say it’s a title that communicates a great deal of relevancy amongst the issues of today?

SKUFL: Been reading a lot of Charles Bukowski and tapping into my feelings. It’s more-so of an personal awakening of emotional intelligence and consciousness.

What influenced you to do an EP like this? Is …read more

Rell Jerv is back with a new video today. “Either Way” was inspired by the facade people create within the music industry. Visually grasping the concept of a young man getting caught up in living beyond his means to impress people. In reality, the man is sinking, and he loses everything all at once. Check it out here.
