We connected with hip hop artists Stix to find our more about him and the vision behind his latest mixtape, W.A.T.T.S.

IHH: When did you start taking hip hop seriously as a rapper?

Stix – I start taking Hiphop seriously when I went on my first tour. It was a tour called The Burger King King of the Court tour, and I was the opening act for Yummy Bingham, Jae Millz, and Playaz Circle a group that 2 Chainz was in. I remember we had a stop in NYC and I was terrified to perform. I remember acting like I was too busy helping with the event so I couldn’t perform. I was afraid to get boo’d plus I wasn’t prepared. After that day I vowed to always be ready!

IHH: Who were your main hip hop influences

Stix – My main Hiphop influences are Jay Z, Diddy, 2 Pac, & Snoop Dogg. They all represent a different layer of success when it comes to music and the music business. I strive to not be like them but to take notes on their progress and try and surpass the bar that they have set.

IHH: What’s the hip hop scene like in Watts?

Stix – There’s a few guys buzzing in Watts, besides myself there’s still TDE artist Jay Rock, you have Glasses Malone, battle rap God Daylyt, Producer, Songwriter, artist Kevin McCall and Diamond Lane’s BadLucc then there’s artist on the brink of popping like 03Greedo, Brick Boys (Killa Twan & Dirty Murph), R&B sensation Kenyon Dixon, and the young R&B star Mali Nicole. There’s way more like Lil Drawz, Aktive, Dusto, Black Owt etc but I’d be sitting here all day tryna name all the amazing talent out of my city

IHH: What was the vision behind the mixtape and how long have you been …read more

As the old saying goes, “the road to success is never a straight line.” The same is true for artist/producer, DOT.. Originally touted as one of the top hockey prospects in North America, a shoulder injury put his career in athletics at a standstill, thus leading him to begin nurturing his love of music. Already dabbling in beat-making, a chance meeting led to him sliding his production to Violator Management’s team and from there, DOT. was off to the races. The Queens native then began landing production placements with the likes of Tony Yayo, Jim Jones and more.

From there, DOT. began navigating his way through the music industry, gaining valuable experience working with industry veterans Jean Nelson and Gee Roberson of The Blueprint Group. While there he contributed on projects for chart toppers G-Eazy and Nicki Minaj amongst others. Stepping out as an MC came organically as his mentor, the iconic Chuck D of Public Enemy, urged DOT. to strop crafting ideas for major labels and focus on his own artistry.

The end result is his forthcoming debut LP titled “Start The Hate.” Executive produced by DOT. Along with the Real Vibez music team and Vekz Madison of Reload Music, the project will be released via his Real Vibez Only imprint. The first release from the project, “Bound 2 See,” premiered in summer 2017 and peaked at #4 on the UK urban charts and at #13 on the UK pop charts. Now, with 2018 on the horizon, DOT. unveils his captivating visual for “Bound 2 See.” Speaking on the song, DOT. shared: “Bound 2 See is a record that is meant to be reflective of my current state of mind and will reinforce to fans that they can achieve what they set out to do with their lives as well as …read more

Raised in the City of Brotherly Love, Ryan Rose was a cast member on season 16 of Oxygen’s hit show, “Bad Girls Club.” Known for her saucy attitude, Ryan has now moved to Los Angeles to further her music career. Today, we receive Ryan Rose’s debut body of work, Different Now.The project title and cover art hint at Ryan’s transition from Philly to L.A., and how she chose to change her hair color to compliment the move.

Every beat on the project inspired me and made me want try something new when rapping. It brought out a different sound that I’ve never done before,” Ryan shares with us.

With no features, Ryan uses the 7-track tape to prove her own versatility. Spitting boastful lines on “20K,” while dishing an anthem for the gang with “Same Crew,” Ryan’s industry glow up is on the horizon.

ROB4REAL becomes The Joker in his new music video, “Switch Up,” featuring Trayce Chapman.

“I’ve always been a fan of music videos in the late 90’s early 2000’s. I use to love the videos from Beastie Boys, Eminem, Blink 182, etc because they were like mini movies. Just so creative. I was listening to the song and for some reason when Trayce verse came on I saw him looking over the city of Denver like Batman, but instead of a Bat signal it was a Chapman Signal!

I texted him right there and said “yo what if we did some batman and joker shit!?” He was with it. I’ve always thought the Joker was dope,” Rob4Real shares with us.

With atmospheric production from III Instrumentals, ROB4REAL holds things down, singing about his wild lifestyle. Watch the trippy, Collective Culture-directed clip below.

Jersey-bred emcee RetroI$Awesome taps in to a nostalgic vibe with the release of his duo-track visual, “Iced Out/Evolve“. The aesthetics chosen for this particular video mirror that of the early 90’s through the VHS-like presentation, and showcase his overall artistry through his verses and style.
Fans may already be familiar with his track “Iced Out” through its heavy buzz via streaming services, but “Evolve” should take most by surprise, as we’ve never heard this unreleased track before.
Retro is preparing fans and listeners all over for his forthcoming untitled project, but we’re still revisiting his latest, “Fountain of Ice,” with videos like such. The city of Atlanta is known for providing Hip Hop fans with new stars on a regular basis. The past few years has been no different. Now, with 2017 winding down, a newcomer looks to stake his claim and gain the same mainstream notoriety as his peers, 24Heavy. A native of ATL’s West Side Vince City aka The Bluff, Heavy grew up with some of today’s most notable artists including YFN Lucci, Ralo, Nick Grant, Young Scooter and more. So much so, that Heavy still recalls recording some of his earliest music at Lucci’s home.

Following a 6-year legal set back, Heavy released his debut project “Heavy World” this past summer under the umbrella of Atlanta’s rising independent label Never Eat Alone Entertainment. Following the release, his single “Sacrifices” began gaining traction in the streets of Atlanta. Inspired by personal life situations, the track has heavy 808s and trap drums, which have become synonymous with his city. Today, he unveils the official music video for “Sacrifices.”

If you know me you know you I love driving when I go back home and on my most recent trip back to the sunshine state I got to take the 2017 Toyota RAV4 for a spin for a week! My first car was a Toyota Camry so I was excited when told I was going to be receiving something in the Toyota family.

Now I’ve been in a RAV4 before as one of my close friends Jasmine Solano is a proud owner of one but this new and improved 2017 model just stepped it up notch! First things first, the color. The name is ‘Galactic Aqua’ and man oh man was it beautiful. I mean, just look at it above! Then the interiors… oh the interiors! A combination of black and brown leather aka the best you could ever ask for.

Alright enough about the looks of this thing. Let’s talk what I care about the most, gadgets. Big screen? Check. Apps? Check. Easy phone connectivity? Check. This car told me the weather conditions via The Weather Channel app like, cmon. It is 2017 alright!

Did it drive smooth? It sure did! And from what I know, as mentioned before I used to be a owner, you can never go wrong with a Toyota. Just saying!

The duo of Xavi and Dre, collectively known as Jumpshooters are ushering a new era of California Hip Hop apart from the street and ratchet themes that have been so prevalent in that region. Hailing from Mid-City and The Jungles, they grew up on opposites of the track, Blood and Crip neighborhoods respectively, but later connected through their shared Jamaican heritage and from there, Xavi and Dre began working on crafting their own unique sound. Now, with years of hard work on their resume, the Jumpshooters are ready to bring their style to the masses with the release of their Scholastic Vision-directed visual for “Regular.” In the clip, which serves as their lead single, the duo takes listeners through a day-in-the-life in Los Angeles, showcasing their flashy lifestyle that might be over the top for some, but the norm for them. The Marz produced track will appear on their debut project “A Very Good Mixtape,” which is slated for release this Winter via Priority Records Distribution.

Continuing with his well received solo project, ‪Detroit emcee and producer, Young RJ, premieres his new video with Vibe Magazine called, “Motion.” Young RJ enlists some A-level features to assist in bringing this mid-tempo, yet melodic banger to life.

Like most teenagers, Marquel Deljuan didn’t listen to anybody — not his parents nor to his true calling. But he knows what’s it’s like to have a second chance. His debut project, Don’t Listen — a collaboration with his father, music producer and rapper Irin “Iroc” Daniels — is an anthem to dismissing the naysayers… even if the naysayer is you.

“Bills” is the first single from the father-son album, which serves as the soundtrack to The System — a film written and directed by Iroc Daniels that exposes layers of corruption and racial tension within the political, judicial and prison systems.
Take a look at the video, which was directed by BuffNerds.

After just being featured on Spotify’s main Fresh Finds playlist for his second single “The Other Side,” Tim Maiden returns with the incredible “So Far Gone.” The song is a look into Tim’s soul and captures a moment of truth for the young singer/songwriter. He says about the song:

So Far Gone means exactly what it means. When I wrote this song I stopped suppressing some shit, sat down at the piano and for the first time in a long time let it out. In a lot of ways this song was the song that got me on track and helped me find myself as a artist; the beginning I guess. Not hiding is a beautiful thing. Being present with yourself and others is all you can do, otherwise what’s the point.

No Label Necessary are a new school rap duo consisting of Thony Remy (U.S) & Creepah (Aus). The diversity of styles, clever wordplay, work pace and charisma has given the group singles on social media reaching over 100k views and their fans wanting more.

Thony Remy & Creepah both were actively creating music in the local scene before they joined forces, with Thony Remy releasing the “Space Monkey” E.P and Creepah releasing his 3rd mixtape “Dance To Your Own Drum”. What makes it more interesting is that both artists live in different states, although it still has not proved to slow them down, keeping a firm grip on social media platforms while still managing to release music videos and tour.

NLN have supported a number of industry heavyweights such as Tech N9ne, R.A The Rugged Man, The Four Owls and Futuristic to name a few.

Already a fixture on the New York music scene, Queens native Mike Classic looks to up the ante with his latest visual for “Woosah.” Directed by RonalD Reid, the clip finds the singer-rapper handling some unfinished business alongside a female companion. The track, which is produced by KAui, was released almost one year ago and went viral after Bryson Tiller posted the tune on social media. From there it was off to the races as Mike Classic eventually collaborated with the likes of French Montana and Jadakiss, while also garnering spins on New York radio stations Hot 97, Power 105 and internationally via Ebro on Beats1. Currently, “Woosah,” has garnered 1.6M streams across all platforms.

Premiered via The Source Magazine, Mike Classic had this to say about the visual:

“With this video I wanted to embody nonjudgmental love, and
pure vibes. We tend to see people only skin deep, not knowing that change is a possibility with the proper people and
proper surroundings. Sometimes all it takes is a conversation, sometimes a night out – in this case, a rhythm you can
kickback & relax too. Woosah…”

“Retrograde,” the title track single from Footwerk’s forthcoming EP, is the result of a spontaneous trip to Black Rock Desert’s annual Burning Man celebration in Nevada. Just before hitting the road from his hometown of DC, the band’s lead vocalist, Kyle meets a gypsy princess who would accompany him on a cross-country tour bus ride in search of the adult carnival. While in route, the pair were joined by members of the unnamed traveler’s hippie tribe. Upon arriving at the dream-like destination, the gorgeous gypsy kept Kyle mellow in the chaos of chasing art cars hosted by Skrillex or Diplo and awkward conversations in group showers. The pursuit of the elusive wanderer culminated at the ritual burning of ‘the man’, where she told Kyle, “Mercury is in Retrograde” while raving about the universe. It was that night, he wrote “Retrograde” for his free-spirited love interests.

Watch the action-packed video for the Chris Wright & Teddi WIthers-produced cut after the jump and purchase “Retrograde” via iTunes here. Please be sure to include the song’s Spotify embed if you decide to cover this release. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration. Peace!

Pounds is one of the most promising and consistent hardcore hip-hop artists out of the state of New York and more fans of the art are taking notice.

With the success of his most recent project, TUNA, he shows no signs of slowing down. This time, he connects with his long-time comrade, eNox, to let loose of the first single, titled “Mask and a Glock” from his forthcoming Album, Rules and Parameters.

Both rappers flow swimmingly, delivering harsh verses over solid, sample-infused production also composed by Pounds. The Rochester dweller is heavily operative when it relates to RAP, so make sure to keep an eye open for what he’s about to pull out of his Supreme bag.

Up-and-coming New York artist Flare embraces his more melodic side and delivers the incredibly catchy “Bad Ting,” the latest track stemming from his studio sessions as he preps for his next project.

The Washington Heights native made some waves the past few years following the release of his debut, 2015’s NoToNoise, and its standout singles, “Real Ones” and “Greatness.” Whereas those tracks were more steeped in pure Hip-Hop, “Bad Ting” finds Flare switching things up and spitting with a Caribbean-tinged sing-song flow. He’s clearly been inspired by a certain someone, and let’s hope her role as his muse doesn’t wear off anytime soon.

Check out “Bad Ting” here.

p what you live. The Egyptian/Lebanese born artist is unique in the sense that he freely merges today’s rhythmic energy with the delivery and authenticity of those that he looks up to. If experience is a measure of anything, it’s fair to say that CD-Rám (or Ramee) has lived what most will consider good enough for one lifetime.

Today, he shares those experiences with us in detail on his debut mixtape, “Diverse.” Led by singles “Through the City” and “My Party,” the project will find you hoping to play the summer back with its intoxicating energy.

“Every project I create has to do with how I’m feeling and the shit that’s going on in my life in that point in time. Thank God life’s been good right now, the vibes are right, the energy is right, the people around me are just the perfect fit to my life so
everything’s moving smooth…” CD-Rám says of his 5-track EP.

Stream “Diverse” now on Spotify or Apple Music, and if you’re in New York, catch him at SOB’s tomorrow!

Brooklyn’s Azia drops a brand new visual for her single “Pull Up On Ya.” The carribean-tinged anthem is brazen and gutty, with Azia taking viewers to the trenches. Paying homage to her Haitian roots, Azia integrates the history of Voodoo, a cultural rooting that many slaves often called upon for spiritual freedom and enlightenment. Azia makes it clear that voodoo is not the negative connotation of “black magic” that people often assume but rather a jovial culturally enriched vital spark.

Real friends are the ones that have always been there for you–support you no matter what and help each other through hard times. They are irreplaceable and uncommon. Zane Davis takes his talents to the West Coast with a colorful new video for “What You Want.” The dreamy visuals capture Zane in Los Angeles, surrounded by palm trees. The mellow vibes of the video pair perfectly with the laid-back track – but don’t be fooled by the smooth instrumental. Zane shows no mercy as he relentlessly fires off bars.

Riding around town in a Benz convertible, Zane lives out his rhymes:”Coupe got no roof cause the roof’s in the trunk…”

With the first single pulled from his forthcoming album, “You-Topia” flourishing well since it’s unveiling, T.K. Other Realm is ready to continue preparing the masses for what more is to come.

Today, he releases a follow-up record titled “Wanna Be”. The first half of the new drop is a tribute to our white oppressors who glorify how people of color have assimilated to European racial bias, stereotypes, and agendas. Towards the end of the track, T.K. begins to touch on the Rebellion. Throughout the record, he chants “Hell Naw” to represent all of the ancestors rising up to awaken our true version of self, stimulating power to all of our pineal glands.

The message in this particular track is a councious one. Wake up folks. The revolution will indeed be televised.

Since the beginning of their respective careers, Slaine and Termanology have been on a seemingly inevitable collision course. Over more than a decade, with each new album or devastating verse, the two New England hip hop heavyweights have continually raised the stakes, providing each other the fuel to push their lyrical intensity and creative output to new heights. As individuals, they helped spark a renaissance of classic East Coast hardcore rap; as a team, joining forces for the long-awaited full-length collaboration LP Anti-Hero this fall, they are cementing their status as battle-tested kings of the underground.

Continuing with his well received solo project, ‪Slum Village’s Young RJ prepares fans for his new single, “Issues”. Issues is a creative collaboration between artists that share a similar artistry and background. Young RJ delivers thought provoking lyrics with ‪BJ the Chicago Kid finessing the track with his soulful vocals. The single was produced by Young RJ and Detroit’s emerging producer, DAG.

Issues follows up, “Wait”, his popular track with ‪Boldy James and ‪Pete Rock that premiered on Mass Appeal. Young RJ is setting the bar high amongst his rap peers by linking up with unique artists in the game and creating a new wave that’s undeniable.

Previously, Young RJ and ‪BJ the Chicago Kid worked together on “Expressive”, a single off Slum’s album, “YES”. Linking up again on “Issues”, their lyrics paint a picture of our current political climate, inner cities, and of course… personal inner demons.

“Issues” is the third single from his debut solo album, “Blaq RoyalT” which is slated for an October 10, 2017 release.

Brandon Bonine releases a new video for “Remember My Name.” Read what he had to say about it below.
I watched my grandma go through a terrible heartbreak with the loss of my Grandpa. At the same time, I was going through a break-up and had a parallel of falling in love with someone only to have them move on. My Grandma and I were left with broken hearts and both of our stories were falling apart for different reasons. Nothing was like it used to be. I wanted a song and video that showed the heartbreak of growing old with someone, losing them, and living in their shadow.” – Brandon Bonine
